A Tubby Recipe

The doors of The Tubby Olive opened bright and early on September 7th to a warm and welcoming crowd of olive oil and vinegar lovers!  We hope you were one of them or that you will join in on the fun to experience the delicious taste that awaits you.

It has been so much fun to meet new people and to see old friends drop in. we love to give suggestions of pairings, but our clientele have also been creative in giving us ideas.  For instance, one gentleman bought some Blueberry Balsamic to drizzle over his stilton cheese.  One customer, who had just purchased some wild mushrooms at the farmer's market, asked for ideas of how to best use them.  After a some discussion, we came up with this:
  • saute the mushrooms and shallots
  • place them on top of our handmade pasta incorporating
  • Splash on some of our Wild Mushroom and Sage Olive Oil
  • Top with shaved parmegano regiano cheese and minced herbs such as chives, parsley and sage (which she grew in her backyard)
In addition, she was going to make a salad of baby greens, pear slices and some Cinnamon Pear Balsamic sprinkled with pecans and blue cheese (where's our invitation?!).

Saturday was exciting with so many wonderful people walking in and getting really involved in making their selections- we were thrilled!

As you can see, we love to talk about food and exchange ideas, so please come in and have a sip or two -or three...!

Finally, we just received our large 750 ml bottles so you can purchase more of your favorite oil or vinegar.

The Show Starts Tomorrow - September 7 at 10am!

In preparation for our Grand Opening on Tuesday September 7th, The Tubby Olive opened the store doors to a few family members and friends.  We're happy to say that everything went smoothly; everyone was excited to taste the olive oils and balsamics while pondering the endless possible combinations.  Even people who, by their own admission, are not particularly creative in the kitchen, were getting excited about making a delicious salad dressing or easy marinade to produce a gourmet meal!  After tasting some food made with our products, items went flying off the shelf!

In particular, everyone loved the Popcorn that we drizzled with our Butter Olive Oil and then sprinkled with our Fabulous Chateau Provence Sea Salt.  The fresh string beans roasted with Tuscan Herb Olive Oil were a huge hit as well.   One guest came up with a great dessert idea: Dark Chocolate Balsamic mixed with Coconut White Balsamic over chocolate almond ice cream, and the piece de resistance - a square of Poco de Dolce Sea Salt Toffee! In addition to our extensive selection of food products, there are the cookbooks.  One friend who is a professional chef spent quite some time perusing our books with all kinds of recipes and mouthwatering photos.

As you can hopefully imagine, there is truly something for everyone at The Tubby Olive!  But don't just imagine - come in and taste it for yourself!  We hope to see many of you in the coming days.  Remember, the 'curtain will rise'  on Tuesday, September 7 at 10a.m.  See you tomorrow!

Taking Notice of Others Taking Notice

The Tubby Olive is, once again, making great progress getting the shop ready to open our doors.  We have also noticed a couple blogs mentioning us.  Over at breadwinecheese, there is a post from June with a picture of our window display with just a sign announcing our immenent opening.  Also, chowhownd has a post that notices us.  Seeing the supportive comments is really a great feeling and makes us even more eager to open.

Speaking of which, stay tuned to this blog as we plan to make an announcement in the very near future...

Coming Into Focus

As The Tubby Olive prepares for the grand opening, we continue to get deliveries each day; it's like a holiday with packages arriving from all over the country.  More importantly, it is the telltale signs of our nascent venture coming more and more into focus.

In addition to the excitement of seeing the pieces fall into place, we have been doing further experiments to find pairings and easy applications of our olive oils and balsamics.  For instance, adding Red Apple Balsamic when cooking your chicken or apple sausage provides a lovely balance and contrast in tastes.  This oil also works well when drizzled over a chunk of gouda cheese.  Roasting vegetables with Tuscan Herb Olive Oil provides a fabulous infusion of flavor to any dish.  And roasted beets take on a new life with a drizzle of Lavender Balsamic. These are just a few possible applications out of endless possibilities.  So stay tuned; plenty more are forthcoming.

We're preparing to 'dress' our large, beautiful window very soon, so take a walk down State Street in Newtown for the latest 'work of art"!!

Delivery Day

This has been a very exciting day at The Tubby Olive!  Around 10a.m.  a mammoth truck pulled up to our door loaded with 52 Fustis (the beautiful steel tanks imported from Italy that will contain our delicious oils and vinegars) and all of the gourmet olive oils and balsamic vinegars!  Can you imagine getting excited about a water cooler?  We were  thrilled to see this beautiful, sleek machine.

Then came the gift items like little tidbit plates, linen dish towels with olive oil related illustrations, cocktail napkins and some very nice trays- one with olive branches, the other says "All You Need" with pictures of bread, cheese, herbs, wine and of course...Olives.

So things are moving along, but there are many more details to complete.  We want everything to be just right when we welcome you to The Tubby Olive.
